Bring a taste of Denmark to your table this brunch season! Join us at the Barton Springs Mill Educational Center for a hands-on cooking class featuring Rugbrød and Smørrebrød. You’ll bake a hearty rye loaf using our Danko rye flour, celebrated for its robust flavor and rich aroma. Then top off the experience by creating an assortment of Smørrebrød with fresh berries and other savory delights. We'll enjoy a light brunch of these delicious open-faced sandwiches and at the end of the class, each student will take home a loaf of rye bread!
Rugbrød - Danish Rye Bread: A staple in Danish cuisine, Rugbrød is dense, packed with wholesome ingredients, and prized for its deep, earthy taste. You’ll learn the proper techniques for various ferments, mixing, proofing, and baking rye dough so you can recreate this Nordic favorite at home.
Smørrebrød - Open-Faced Sandwiches: Featuring an array of toppings on thinly sliced rye bread, Smørrebrød offers a perfect balance of textures and flavors. We’ll assemble a mouthwatering spread that highlights savory proteins and simple garnishes—ideal for breakfast, lunch, or a light brunch with friends.
