    Date: Friday, January 31, 2025

    Time: 4pm - 7pm

    Cost: $150 per single-entry ticket

PLEASE READ ALL CLASS POLICIES AT THE BOTTOM OF CLASS DESCRIPTION BEFORE MAKING YOUR PURCHASE.

Join us at the mill for our winter creole cooking tutorial! For this winter's family meal, you're invited to enjoy a low-key creole party where Education Center co-director Nadia Rodriguez will lead you through demos and hands-on components of her ideal winter cookout. This class will focus on making your own seafood grit fritters from scratch using Nadia's tried and true method, and she'll teach you how to fry them fresh in class so they're ready to pair with our main dish of comforting gumbo bursting with flavor. To finish it all off, you will dine on Nadia's specially developed recipe for bananas foster with mini beignets and ice cream, which celebrates traditional flavors in a classic Louisiana dessert fist created in 1951! This class will highlight BSM's own stone-milled flour and grits, which works beautifully in both sweet and savory applications.

Family Meals at the mill are the perfect way to take home unique recipes developed by the mill education center staff, and experience first-hand all the insider tips and tricks that take recipes to the next level. We love inviting you into our space so we can share our love for ingredient-driven, seasonal cooking - no recipe gate keeping here!

    Things to look forward to:
    • Have an opportunity to work with freshly stone-ground grains from Barton Springs Mill, paired with seasonal and local ingredients
    • Dine on a full menu (including dessert!) and take home in-depth recipes and tips and tricks
    • Hang out with Education Center co-directors Frida + Nadia
    • Tour the mill
    • Purchase BSM products at an exclusive 15% class discount

Easy going, great educational class + Amazing Food!

This was my first ever experience in the classroom at Barton Springs Mill. As a very casual chef at my house, this class allowed me to go at my pace and still make amazing tortillas. The instructors were very informative and did a great job presenting each step. The tour was very interesting and was a great compliment to what we were learning in the class. I would totally recommend this class and can't wait to attend more.

    Fantastic, delicious experience

My first class at the mill but it was an absolute blast. Loved the format and all the delicious food. Both instructors were super helpful and knowledgeable. Also the food they made for everybody to enjoy with the tortillas we made was stellar. The mesquite tres leches nearly made me cry with joy.

Great, spring, cool-weather grilling of cod and polenta on a grill. Informative, fun and low key.
