In this bite-sized 2 hour class for children ages 5+ accompanied with a parent or guardian, we’ll bake and decorate mini cupcakes and craft a salt-dough plate to serve them on! Local baker and mom of 3 littles, Jessica Lopez, will guide you through the recipes as you create fun and delicious memories with your favorite little one(s - max TWO kids per adult). In this class, recipes include a fundamental yellow cake using Barton Springs Mill’s freshly stone-milled organic flour, a kid-favorite recipe for orange blossom buttercream, and a flour-craft recipe for salt dough. Come make mini-cupcakes, roll out some salt dough plates, and experience a fun + educational tour of the mill.
Things to look forward to:
About your Instructor:
After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition from the University of Texas at Austin, Jessica’s fascination with food science led her to further pursue her education in pastry school at FERRANDI in Paris, France. She spent her internship working in the Michelin starred pastry kitchen at the palace hotel Four Seasons George V in Paris, after which she received her diploma in French patisserie and bread baking in 2011. Working for over a decade in bakeries and pastry kitchens in central Texas, she is well-versed in both French and American pastry technique, has established her own organic cottage bakery called Sustainable Sweets, is passionate about using quality local organic ingredients, and is now looking forward to teaching and sharing her pastry knowledge.
